    Bandra-Worli Sea Link Project is about to be completed. Four lanes of this bridge are planned to be opened to traffic by end of June, 2009. Till date an expenditure of Rs. 1,265 crore has been incurred on this project.

    Commuters in Mumbai will take a huge relief today, as the much-awaited Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL) will open to public today. The Sea Link will make the travel between Bandra and Worli possible in just 7 minutes instead of 45 minutes. The project took 5 years for completion and came at the cost of Rs 1,634 crore. Congress President Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate the Bandra Worli Sea Link Project today.

    Till date, the Mahim Causeway was the only link connecting Bandra and Worli. With the new sea link set to be launched, a revolution in Mumbai's history will be written. This is the first-ever Sea Link project in India.

    According to estimates. almost 1 lakh visitors or more will use this new sea link route everyday during the peak hours. The Bandra Worli Sea Link Project was conceived in 1962. It was finally implemented by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation.

    The bridge of Sea Link project is 4-km long in the sea and 1.6-km long in road. Total length of the sea link is 5.6 km. The link has a toll plaza of 16 lanes. It will save fuel to the tune of Rs 260 crore annually. There will be separate charges for light vehicles and heavy vehicles to use this sea link.
