• PUNJAB TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY PTU CET Combined Entrance Test 2011 Scrapped

Punjab has scrapped the state-level combined entrance test (CET) for admission to undergraduate engineering course. From the next academic session, the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) will be the criterion to enter the state colleges, said Suresh Kumar, principal secretary (technical education and industrial training), here on Sunday.

The chief minister has approved the proposal of Punjab Technical University to discontinue to CET

The total number of seats in all technical institution in the state is nearly equal to the number of aspirants taking the CET. Besides, the syllabus for CET and AIEEE is almost the same, so the students should not be burdened with multiple tests, PTU vice-chancellor Dr Rajneesh Arora had said while recommending the scrapping.

There is nearly 34,000 seats for various engineering disciplines in the state colleges

Separate AIEEE merit for Punjab domiciles - 85 percent will be for the state students. So the state residents must mention Punjab domicile in their forms while applying for AIEEE.

Pharmacy : Decision pending, the CET- scrapped now – was also the basis of admission to pharmacy course in the state. The state government is yet to decide what the criterion would be now, since the test stands discontinued. We will soon decide on pharmacy course admission tests, was all that Suresh Kumar, principal secretary (technical education and industrial training), said

As for the Common Entrance Test for postgraduate courses (MBA, MCA), that test would continue, and would as usual be conducted by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, or by Punjabi University, Patiala, as would be decided by the state government
